    “Sestun,” corrects Kalthanar.

"Right, Setsun. He's from the skeleton tribe, right?" Brandon asks Hrothgar. "Maybe Vort can cast Sending and ask him if he has heard of a skull tribe."

"No...Sestun was from Lion tribe... hence why I asked him to aid in my search for them. He was a red robe originally. Only after his thoughts took a revenge path did his robes turn black. I am hoping that resolution of the Mystery to the Lions disappearance will fulfil that revenge and set him back to his true path. But we know that a group of Black Robes went into Mistmoor - we were told as much at Alliance. So it could have been any of them."

Kalthanar says, "I believe this Skull tribe is an offshoot of the Skeleton tribe. Perhaps tomorrow Vortigern can contact Sestun and confirm if this is true. It is certainly no coincidence."

"Agreed. We should see to searching the rest of the place before Rocky collapses it. Then we need to escort our guest back to the Burrows."

OOC: Brandon is able to help Kalthanar search to negate disadvantage.

Hrothgar was rare in that he had been groomed for greater things: marrying another tribe to help unite tribes. Because of this, he was literate, which was uncommon for a Mistmoor male warrior. He rummaged through most of the notes, not recognizing much, until he found one paper asking for a status report to return to Battlemaster Madal. Hrothgar recognizes the name as a Bear member, and recognizes the scribes hand as one of the Bear scribes, although he can't recall his name. There are no official documents here that look to be highly important, but the assortment of this many documents was possibly the most troubling part. Hrothgar doesn't recognize anything that might look like it's from the Lion tribe, but that makes sense since they have been missing for months now.

Kalthanar's search is thorough and finds that one of the feet to the desk was very loose. Wenser shrugs and says, "I was working on removing it as some kind of weapon." A thorough check of it reveals nothing amiss or extraordinary about it. It's a very basic desk.

Wenser replies to Kalthanar, "Very little important dialogue actually happened in this room. I never met their Queen, but heard her talk from the other rooms. As far as what was written, no nothing about any of the Gods. Keep in mind that I was likely used to send false messages, so any real messages wouldn't have been written by me. I doubt there was much purpose to sending misdirection about deities."

After several minutes of questioning, a desk search, and some paper checking, a mini explosion rocks the underworld as Rocky succeeds in destroying the altar. Several other sounds accompany the bang and shifting of the ground: one sounds of glass shattering, while the other sounds like coins scattering. The Sentinels warily enter the altar room and find Rock standing over the altar. His rocky body is blackened in front, but he doesn't look substantially injured. Littered around the room are various coins that were either on or near the altar when it was destroyed. The remnants of several liquids are spread near Rocky and sloshed against the walls. Two spell scrolls are found littered throughout the room, likely being tossed from the altar during its breaking.

Of curious note though, in the northeast corner of the room, the Sentinels find the mutated halfling, or his statue. Apparently he had the misfortune or "blessing" of looking at the Queen of Scales directly when targeting her with a heal spell. While most would likely consider this a horrible death, his facial expression has the widest smile imaginable spread across his now stoned face. With his present condition accounted for, it appears that only the last archer snake-man escaped.

"We should take the mutated halfling," Vort says, "I can bring him back later and we can question him." Looking about, Vort looked to see what had powered the altar.

Wenser thinks and shakes his head negatively to Kalthanar's question. He replies, "If I didn't I don't remember it. I was also under a lot of stress."

"Agreed," Brandon says. "Come on Wenser, let's have a look around and then get you back to the Burrows." Brandon politely offers the halfling a hand and puts his other one around the smaller man's shoulders as he guides him towards the main room where the altar once stood. "Do you suppose we should try to clear these vines more?" Brandon eyes the pit warily.

Kalthanar replies, “I think we should avoid the pit and the underdark for that matter. I suggest we limit our search to the complex and then return to the Burrows.”

Hrothgar is disturbed. The papers as innocuous as they seem, are troubling in that they seek to divulge army numbers and provisions. In enemies hands that type of information could be disastrous.

He ensures that the papers are gathered and taken with them for further study.

He then prepares to finish the search of the complex with the others. Helping to gather things along the way.

Default Chapter 14.2: The Missing Halflings

As a group, the Sentinels gather the coins from around the room while Rocky keeps watch. Some coins may have ended up down the giant hole or buried beneath the partially destroyed altar, but after gathering the coins, they find 180 platinum, 360 gold and 630 silver. Probably over 75% of the mints appear to be Mistmoorian in nature, with most of the remaining coins being stamped from the Burrows. They also pocked the two spell scrolls that survived the blast. Oddly scattered around the room are small bones that have been carefully polished. With some careful observation, Kalthanar and Voritigern believe that these are halfling bones and were offered to the Queen of Scales for some unknown, vile purpose.

The Sentinels are careful to avoid the giant hole, particularly Kalthanar, who for some reason finds himself panicking slightly just by putting his eyes on it for some unknown reason.

Kalthanar and Vortigern spend time examining the cocoons and find three left that have halfling guards trapped inside them. They are surrounded by a slimy bile of unknown origin that is disgusting. Parts of their bodies are visible and small snakes probably 6 inches to a foot long in side can be seen crawling inside the cocoons. The snakes are pure black in color and appear to have the same dull sheen that the skin that the Queen of Scales had. None of the Sentinels have ever seen anything remotely like these things. Vortigern thinks that he sees one or possibly two of the trapped halflings breathing, but isnít sure. They find evidence of another half dozen opened cocoons.

The search of the remaining rooms turns up little of value. North of where Wenser was chained, they find several quarters that are a living quarters. Despite ripping the area apart, they find absolutely nothing of value, even a copper piece. These cultists were truly fanatical, and appeared to give all their possessions to their Queen.

With Rockyís help the Sentinels traverse the pit of snakes. As they cross the entire pit seems to crawl with as one giant living floor. Several snakes strike at Rocky, but do no visible damage to him. More often than not they are simply trampled by his thoughtless steps and he mindlessly crosses the pit.

The locked door that proved to be an obstacle is removed in about 10 seconds by Rockyís ďlockpickingĒ. On the other side of the door, they find 8 fairly recently deceased Mistmoor tribesman Ė four male and four female. Hrothgar easily recognizes them as Viper tribesmen from their tattoos. All have snake bites one their body that are swollen. Among their possessions are another 200 gold in various coins. Vortigernís keen eyes spot a diamond pendant laced in the bootstrap of one of the dead females. Heís not certain of the value, but itís likely worth several hundred gold or more. No standard plainsman would have something like this, denoting this particular female as someone of significance. Or former significance. The bodies are starting to stink and rot, likely meaning that they are probably more than a day but less than a week old.
