In another world, perhaps things wouldn't be so bleak. Perhaps the people
would not have to fear both The Blight and the corrupt politicians. Maybe
the tax collectors wouldn't need so much to fund the Black Wardens. But it
is the price the people pay for safety and what little piece of mind they
have. These idle fantasies do nothing for the problems at hand. The people
do what they must just to survive.
The Blight: For the past thousand years Darkspawn have been
constant threat to Thedas. The Blight refers not to a particular Darkspawn
threat, but the whole Darkspawn problem. Darkspawn have attacked steadily. The Grey Wardens: The Grey Wardens are a global organization of
warriors trained in fighting the Darkspawn. During the 7th age the Grey
Wardens of Ferelden were required to become an official arm of the King's
Army. When they refused they were banned from the lands. The few who
had agreed became known as the Black Wardens. The Black Wardens: This is an extension of the King's army that is
specially trained in fighting the Darkspawn. Rumors are not in short supply
about the Black Wardens, but it is no secret that the Black Wardens are well
paid by the taxes collected from the citizens of Ferelden. The leader of the
Black Wardens is Prince Loghain Mac Tir II, son of King Loghain Mac Tir I. Lord Maric Theirin: The Knight-Commander, holding a seat high in King
Loghain I's court. He is the right hand man of the king even though they do
not always see eye to eye. Ser Cailan Theirin: Son of the Knight-Commander and an skilled
swordsman. He and his adopted cousin are close friends and rivals. He
hasn't seen much of him since he left to become a templar. He has been
romantically involved with the King's daughter, Princess Anora since their
youth. He hopes to ask for her hand after he proves himself against the
Darkspawn. He hopes to lead the next great raid against them. Sheirff Jarrold: The commander of Denerim's town guard. His claims a
blood line to the royal family. This claim has never been proven or disprove
and many referre to him as Jarrold the Bastard based on the idea that he is
an illegitimate son of the late King Harron. He is a cruel man who uses his
power to bully others. Duncan the Outlaw: Leader of a rebel band, The Grey Wardens. His
crimes have been summarized as: Treason, abandoning the King's Army,
theft, and murder. He was once a Black Warden initiate but escaped early in
the process. The reasons for his flight in unknown to the general public. He
was once close friends with Lord Maric and Ser Cailan, but it was Maric that
put up the 100 gold reward for his head. He has been on the run since the
beginning of the 9th age, nearly 20 years ago. The People: The people of Ferelden fear the Darkspawn above all else.
Since the 5th age they have paid their taxes and honored the Black Wardens
for their efforts against the evils. But since King Harron Mac Tir passed away
and King Loghain I took the throne the people have gained a new fear:
poverty. King Loghain I raised taxes to further fund the Black Warden. The
town guard and the tax collectors have become bullies of the common
people, often taking more taxes than charged to line their own pockets. The Rebel King: During the war with the Orlesians Harron Mac Tir was
an honored commander who led many winning battles against the invading
forces. The people began to call him "The Rebel King" and when the war was
over he was appointed to the throne. Lord Maric Theirin, the true heir,
stepped down and allowed the more experienced leader to take the throne.
At the time Maric was not well liked by the people. they blamed his family for
the war in the first place.
House Rules Generating Abilities: Roll 3d6 8 times, use chart (PG19). Place as you wish. Starting Focuses: After determining focuses gain from background/classes/etc you can choose 1 more focus. This focus must be from your class's Primary Abilities list or your background random list. Starting Talents: The rules are not clear here. I have determined that you may choose ANY starting talent from the list even if you DO NOT meet the requirments. Think of this like Ranger's TWF in D&D 3.x. Starting Silver: You get 65sp. Mabari: The stats are in the GM Guide but not Player's Guide. At the moment these require 40 silver to buy. Additional Backgrounds: Ehh, why not? If you want to be a a Dwarf Noble or Commoner, or Qunari, I will see what I can draw up. PCs cannot ask to be a Mabari or a Golem. Class and Weapon Talent Stunts:Stunts PDF You can use these stunts as well. For the weapon based Stunts you must be a Novice in the related Talent.
Where and when and how long
We will be using MapTools. We will meet on Wednesday around 7:00pm CST (GMT-6). Sessions will last about 4 hours, no less than 3, no more than 5. This will be a test run of the new system so I am planning for 4 sessions at first. If everyone wants to continue playing for several more sessions then I will continue GMing until the campaign is complete.
Three Steps of Character Creations
1) The Ten Minute Background!
Please complete the TMB or give me a couple paragraphs that contain the same information.
Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind. 5 is just a minimum...more elements are encouraged!
Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.
Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!
Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.
Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.
2) Get your roll on!
Just copy, paste, and remove the spaces.
3) Write it all down!
This will be the character sheet we will be using. please copy and paste from [.code] to [./code] and post in the character section in the game forum once it is open.

<< >>: Delete these sections
ALL CAPS: Replace these with names of spells/weapons/etc.
*Attribute: Fill in the appropriate Attribute score. It should be either Dexterity, Strength, or Perception, depending on what weapon you're using.
**Race: The base speed of each race is different, so I couldn't put a number on my own. Just be sure to write down the appropriate number for your race.
** Weapon Bonus: Some weapons have their own positive or negative modifiers after their damage die (dice). For example, the Longbow has a base damage of 1d6+3, this is where you would write that +3 modifier down.
NOTE ONE: I am looking for a total of 4-6 people. Those who have expressed interest previously will be considered first. Right now we have:
Please post character sheets, background (or TMB), and/or portrait in the Character subcategory. Title of the topic should be "Character Name - Description (if you choose)". Example: "Delmuth Bowyn - Master Hunter of the Dalish".
