    Default 5e - One-Shot Wonders Episodic Campaign

    One-Shot Wonders
    Format: PbP
    System: D&D 5e
Posting requirements: at least 2x per week. More if possible. Week-long gaps in posting may result in a warning. Continuing to have week-long posting gaps or unannounced extended absences may result in your removal from the game.

Note for beginners: You are absolutely welcome to apply! I’m thrilled to help people learn to play, and many others here on the Tangled Web are also helpful when it comes to learning the ropes. However, you will want to do a little reading on your own – there’s only so much we can do if you haven’t even begun to figure out the rules. The Player’s Handbook (often referred to as the PHB) has all the information you need to know about playing the game and making a character. If you are unfamiliar with the rules of D&D 5e and do not have access to the Player’s Handbook or to a digital version of its material (such as on the D&D Beyond website), you may use the free Basic Rules that are available on the Wizards of the Coast website (http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules) or the System Reference Document, also available on the WotC website (http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/feat...e-document-srd), which has a few more options when it comes to classes, and which also has some magic item information.
Don’t freak out about starting at level 3 even if you’ve never made a level 1 character before. Focus on making your level 1 character (that’s the hardest part), and then level that character up. Feel free to ask for help at any time.

    Campaign Description
Imagine a TV show like Charmed, Supernatural, or even something with no magic in it like NCIS. The characters grow and develop over the course of the seasons, yet each episode contains its own complete story. Now imagine a D&D show like that, with your character as one of the stars!
This campaign is a series of unconnected one-shot adventures. Each adventure will have a hook and will provide enough experience to advance your characters by a single level. You’ll go from town to town, ruin to ruin, adventure zone to adventure zone in each new episode, taking on new quests, new puzzles, and new villains each time. We will hand-wave the time between each “episode” of the series, taking care of level-ups, shopping, and downtime activities out of character before the beginning of the next episode so that we can get straight to the action. The adventures range from dungeon delves to wilderness explorations to planar jaunts with a little bit of something for everyone. Your characters, their personality, and their interactions with each other will be the strongest carry-over, making these the most important part of the game. Once characters are selected, we will have a brief intro where we establish prior relationships between them to help unify them into a true adventuring group. Given this, it is not necessary for you to create your character's most recent life events in order to get them to the first adventure (described below) by themselves. Leave some room for your character to have met up with the other party members and get to the first adventure with them.

Here is the hook for our first adventure, titled “An Axe to Grind.”

Here’s what you need to know about making your character.

Here are some house rules that I will be using in the game.

    Complete applications will include

    1. The character's name, race, and class.
    2. A brief description of your character's backstory and personality.
    3. A link to your MythWeavers character sheet, which should be correctly and completely filled out. (Please feel free to check out some of my character sheets in my signature to see what I mean by “correct/complete.”)
    4. An explanation somewhere on your character sheet of any not-immediately-obvious choices you made, such as ability score increase/decrease, spending of money, feature/archetype selections, etc. (This makes it easier for me to review your sheet and verify its accuracy.)
    5. The number of games you are currently running and/or playing in. (I want to make sure everybody gets a chance to have their D&D fix. This is not a primary consideration, but will play a role in selection if there are enough applicants.)

Recruitment will last until Saturday, February 10th (note that this was originally Feb. 16th, but I announced on Feb. 4th that I would shorten the recruitment time). Once recruitment is over, I will select my preference of applicants. If there is a huge turnout, I might consider taking two groups.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask here in this thread. If you are a part of the Tangled Web’s unofficial Discord channel, you can contact me there, as well.
You should only send me a PM via the forum if

    • you are talking to me about a secret regarding your character
    • you are sharing proprietary material for me to consider (such as a 3rd party class or race)

    Hey Rellott,

This looks great! I'm resurrecting a character I can't seem to get to stick in a game, but I'm hoping this is one of them. Say hello to the revamped Overyx of the Terii, Goliath Cleric of the Tempest.

Overyx stands 6'5" tall and weighs an easy 300 pounds. His slate-grey skin is offset by three white raised tattoos about a quarter-inch in height that run the length of his arms from the back of his hand to his shoulders, curving around and rising to small crest on his otherwise bald head. His eyes are like chips of onyx, dark and calm. He wields a pitted and rough maul the same muted blood-red hue of his suit of chainmail. A fearless opponent, but unflinchingly loyal and honest ally, Overyx will demonstrate the might of Terii for the entire world to see and bring honour to Talos the Allfather, He Who Brings the Storm.

Overyx is a model Terii; stern, stoic, and supremely confident in his own superiority as a physical specimen. Honour-bound to combat, the entire society of the Terii revolved around battle and the vying for position. Rank and reputation are everything and the ascension of the former and the growth of the latter follow strict codes of engagement. When a challenge is issued, a challenge is met. When terms are agreed, they are abided by - and enforced - ruthlessly.

Trained from the cradle as fighters, one's prowess in combat and adherence to the many laws of the Terii determined one's fate. When Overyx's connection to Talos manifested as a young stormeater, he had been inducted into the Thundercloud Exert, a cult of Talos who taught the Taming of His Fury. Overyx learned how to bind and shape the chaos of battle, how to channel the power of churned earth, smoking rocks, and ruined landscapes and take it for himself. The rage of a Storm God bound to the iron law and honour of the Terii.

Are you working on converting the sheet? The ability scores are beneath the minimum, and your Dex skills are all listed as -1 when your Dex is a +0. You're also missing your initiative and passive perception. There might be more, but I don't want to look in-depth if you're still changing things.

Good catch on the ability scores and blanks. As for the ability points, I'm not sure why I'm low...point buy is showing 25/27 and the remaining two are for the Savage Attacker Feat:

    STR - 14 (+2 racial) - 16
    DEX - 10
    CON - 13 (+1 racial) - 14
    INT - 8
    WIS - 15
    CHA - 10

    25/27
