Default Chapter Two: Appetite for Destruction

The gremlin butler ducks back into the magic bag he calls home as if anxious to avoid discussion about his virtual prophecy of doom still hanging in the air.

The sickly green sky of the Shadow Plane above them seems dimmer and more ominous, despite the Shining Quarter's cheery colored witchlights and fanciful touches like the occasional party hats draped on a golden gargoyle construct.

"So we will just put averting the apocalypse on our to do list?" Bel Collon asks rhetorically. "After settling up with Ravenmoor about the cult you vanquished, and catching Alizna and her new dragon mount, and seeing this Sir Trogir who hired you?"

Other necessities pop into their various heads:

Speaking to Ravenmoor's law keeping Sky Council of Shoanti elders, and what remains of the Mayor's town council, about letting the Wolf's Ear residents (*peaceful werewolves who are being persecuted by the Lord Mayor of Magnimar) move into Ravenmoor.

Stopping in Riddleport to deal with the half-orc druglord Boss Croat (*who may indeed have kidnapped the sun priestess who saved Korman's life).

Locating Bel and Ulvenn's disreputable old wizardly mentor Memnok in Riddleport.

Getting the Masked Marquis of the Brotherhood of Silence in Oppara to call off his hounds from stalking Flint for "one last wetwork job."

Staying one step ahead of Doctor Bello so they can bring an eventual end to his nefarious experiments to create half-breed "super soldiers" at the Twilight Academy in Galduria.

And on a personal note for Mammon, returning to Oppara in time for winterweek (*to visit his bed-ridden father).

    OOC:

(*yadda yadda) indicates only one player/character is aware of this so far and hasn't told the others yet.

A quick refresher as we begin Chapter Two. But you can always refer to Campaign Notes, too.

"Lets get to ravenmoor to start, we can worry about getting back to Wolf's Ear and the old dwarf afterwords, after that I think we should head to Talda, I have business to attend to there" Flint suggests

Ulvenn looks to Bel, he may had accepted these others and would watch out for them and help out, but his stake was still primarily with Bel, "If it comes to a vote I'll side with Bel and the monkey."

"I wish to keep traveling together if you all agree? We could go to Taldor by way of Riddleport if that is agreeable?" the wizard is quick to put in. "We have a common enemy now in Alizna. And though it is too soon to tell, Mammon and I may have another common enemy from the Abyss. In return for your aid I am willing to put my and Abel's magecrafting services entirely at your disposal, though materials will be expensive and that cannot be helped. And I am loathe to do harm or risk killing anyone because of whatever happened with Esther, but should we run into a fight I will do my best to keep you all safe and fit. Do we have an accord?" she asks, retreating into formality.

"That sounds absolutely agreeable. As far as I am concerned, an accord has been struck." Mammon says with a smile. And then adds wistfully, "It will be good to see home. My father is not in the best of health and my sister is having a wedding soon, I would hate to miss it."

"Alright, I can do that too I think, a greater party gives greater opportunity. Let's head back to Ravenmoor, if we've been gone a few hours on a trip like that they must be worried; Oh, we haven't told Bel or Ulvenn about what we've done in detail, have we?" Korman says, looking at Bel and Ulvenn.

    OOC
I wasn't expecting another chapter, it confused me for a second! That is quite the list for the party, it seems like fun.

Default From Shadow Plane to Ravenmoor

To Mammon she says, "I hope we may reunite you with your father soon, and find him in better health than the last report. And of course it would not do to miss your sister's wedding."

Collon blinks at Flint's nonchalant summary. "I confess I heard most of the story when Mammon relayed it to the bard Duffy. But a waterwolf too?! And here I was concerned about bringing extra danger into your lives..."

    ***Brief Time Skip***

The wizard climbs onto her cart with Abel still perched on her shoulder. Korman beside her takes the reins since Roharram is so comfortable with him. The escaped blink pup he hides beneath his cloak in case they pass by Philossith.

Ulvenn knows the Umbral Market well and manages to lead them back to the precise alley where they entered. There is a shadow of an arch visible on the ground despite the murky green sky above. Flint swings the hematite stone like a pendulum on the end of the necklace and supplies the syllables Alizna used: shack-khala-log.

"Most of the aiudara, that is the elf gates, require a particular atmospheric condition, an Elven pass phrase, and a spell component or two with a sympathetic connection to the place you are traveling to, plus the presence of elven blood," Bel muses. "What you said sounds similar to Elven for 'home of the shadow folk,' which seems correct. My guess is the necessary condition involves the casting of shadows. The Shadow Plane is a kind of mirror to the other planes so I believe the same elements will let us travel both ways. Let us put them all together."

She holds out her hand with the hematite and utters shah kayal'og. A familiar oval portal like a hanging black mirror opens. The mage lets out an uncharacteristic whoop of triumph. Mammon moves in first with the Scorpion's Sting drawn and lets them all know the coast is clear.

Up the underground corridor they return to the zombie pen. The massive cage is turned completely on its side and several bars have been bent from tremendous impact. The earth is all stirred up and reeks of fresh blood as well as the lingering corpse stench. A quick search reveals no clues in the area and nothing of note left behind.

They emerge up the ladder into what had been Ghlaunder's cultist's altar room and out the door. The wizard employs a few nifty shrinking spells from scrolls in order to maneuver her cart and horse through the exits and into open air.

Syriaax the pseudodragon scratches to be let out of the cart and Ulvenn obliges her. A single word echoes in his mind from hers. <Freedom!>

Astarix the hippogriff had been patrolling the skies and touches down beside the paladin. The reformed young cultist calling himself Tavi hurries over to them, stumbling to his knees in his haste when he reaches them. His nose and forehead are smeared with mud. Mak the worg runs close at his heels.

"There was a dragon!" the boy gasps. "It was all I could do to hold my water when he burst from the ground! He carried an old woman on his back. She was using reins that looked like spiderwebs and had something big wrapped in webbing in her lap. After that I was paralyzed with fear with my face in the dirt and couldn't see anymore."

They calm him down and ride back to Ravenmoor in Bel's cart at a good clip. A contingent of Hawkeye quah bowmen on horseback including Korman's friend Hata Buckinghorse intercepts them and escorts them as a kind of honor guard all the way back to the town proper.

In the time the heroes have been gone nearly all the tents have deserted the tourist Campground along with their occupants of many lands. Fires have cleansed the kobold spike pit traps full of zombies.

The Shoanti sound their horns to announce their arrival at the end of the bridge into the town's outer limits.

    ***End Time Skip***

An august assembly of anxious faces waits just on the other side of the bridge. The tengu mayor Jamok stands with shaman Greatcloud and the gnome Accountancer Kalsiver Kalthrarrias and the fugitive head of the clan from Wolf's Ear, Ruxandra Katranjiev. Councilmen Viorec Korzha is there too with his children, the youngest of whom begin cheering and skipping around tossing flower petals to create a colorful carpeted lane into town.

Over the happy cacophony Greatcloud calls, "Are you well, friends? Do you have prisoners or wounds that need tending?"

    OOC:

If there's something you really need to say or do before you are welcomed back into Ravenmoor, by all means post it along with *** *** to indicate when it happened and maybe use some quote marks so it's clear what you're responding to?

    ***On the way to Ravenmoor!***

Korman frets and makes another list, questioning the group. "Anyone need to tell anything about what needs to be done, since it seems fate has decided we should be the ones to save the world and every minor problem in-between?" He pauses, waiting, before answering himself. "Well, I'll start. I feel the need to make sure someone I owe is safe from Boss Croat, the druglord. We need to check in with Ravenmoor before heading off, figure out how Flint, Mammon, and I have come from one place, and visit Mammon's family." he says, breathing in.

"Um... sorry, Flint and Ulvenn, but you two need to figure out your "thing", too. Anything I've missed?

    OOC
Korman checks back in! Might as well let my lists carry over into Korman's habits, and it'll do a world of good to get things out to other characters.

(aren't we headed to wolf's ear for payment first?)

"I think us saving the world is a bit of an exageration? and besides getting paid in wolfs ear, I guess I am just along to keep you out of trouble Korman" Flint responds to korman "and What do you mean come from one place?" Flint responds confused, "as for Ulvenn and I's 'thing' we used to work together, his work got too dirty so I found a different line of employment" He clarifies with the finality of someone who doesn't much want to talk about it
