"You were attacked by the drow? When was this?"(Undercommon) Voraxus asks, but quickly realizes he doesn't know exactly how much time has lapsed since his capture and subsequent escape. It's hard to tell the passage of time down here if you aren't a native.

Maintaining his submissive posture, Dargyr backs away a little so that he's further back in the group. Away from the crossbows... and Nyx.

Default Chapter 3: The Mimsy Borogoves

((These gnomes do know some common, but Stool can also facilitate as necessary, or someone else can translate. For simplicities sake, unless the translator would have some reason to be unfaithful to their duties, we'll just bypass that and have the conversation.))

"It's been a few decades now, hasn't it?" He looks over to the other guards to confirm. "You get involved with one renegade drow and suddenly you're helping retake a dwarven kingdom from the drow and getting them all vindictive, and before you know it, BOOM! They sack your city. You surfacers probably don't know just how bad drow are, do you?"

((Note that, while I have not read the books in question, the events being referred to here are part of Drizz't lore. Every place I've looked is a little fuzzy on the exact time frame of this adventure, so I can't figure exactly how long ago those events happened.))

"I'm pretty sure we don't want to know," Nyx chimes in with a small nod. "I've seen enough to know enough."

((Nyx promised to take responsibility and Dargyr is acting pretty submissive right now. Do the guards open the gates?))

Theander was surprised at the change in Dargyr, he didn't normally see him as the sort to back down, but he was definitely appreciative to Nyx. He also considered that it might be in his best interest to learn undercommon, being unable to understand was beginning to move away from his paranoia and over into his irritation. Even with a translator, it would be nice to actually understand the message as it came from the mouth of the speaker.

Seeing that you seem reasonably safe, the deep gnomes open the gate. Four of them move to escort you into the city.

Directly beyond the gate you see you are in a twisting and turning path with 10 foot high walls. Nails are studded into the walls, and there is a ledge running atop the walls, and it is lined with towers and battlements that defenders could use to fire freely at anyone in the path. The ground slopes up and down, and occasionally makes a narrow squeeze that the larger of you have to squeeze through. There is a mechanism to hoist up wagons or carts onto this upper ledge, but it is currently in the up position.

After winding through this defensive maze, you come to another gate similar to the one you passed through a few moments before. Flanking it are two stone towers embedded in the cavern walls. Peering through shuttered windows, more deep gnomes watch your approach. Your escort waves at the gnomes in the tower and the gate opens at your approach.

Beyond this gate lies another tunnel. This tunnel has a 30 foot high ceiling, and you see gems embedded in its walls about 15 feet up at set intervals of about 30 feet. At the north end of this tunnel is a smaller, stone door that appears to be reinforced with adamantine. Alcoves with fifteen foot high ledges flank this door, though they appear to be unmanned. Your escort walks up and opens the door.

The outer defenses of Blingdenstone have painted a picture of paranoia and of a people under siege, but beyond the door, the true nature of the city is revealed: the city is a rare bastion of warmth, coziness, and welcome. You leave the dark tunnel behind and step into what looks like another world. These aren't sinister drow caverns or harsh, bare stone, but a subterranean land of warm colors and welcoming smells. The deep gnomes you see going about their business glance up at you with suspicion, but you instinctively understand that you face no threat here. One of the guards escorting you abandons his severe frown to give a deep nod as he prompts you past the inner gate. "Welcome to Blingdenstone, travelers."

You are in number 5, the Welcome Hall. This busy cavern welcomes visitors to Blingdenstone and connects to several other important chambers...
    6. The Barracks
    7. Trader's Grotto
    8. The Ruby in the Rough (temple to Segojan Earthcaller)
    9. Cultivation Cave
    10. Staging Area (defenses against enemies currently unknown to you)
    11. Caves of Clatter (blacksmiths)
    12. Residential Caves
    13. Speaking Stones (religious area)
    14. Diggermattock Hall (government home/office)
    15. Singing Stones (performance area)
    16. The Foaming Mug (inn for foreigners)

You are pointed to the Trader's Grotto, the Caves of Clatter, and the Foaming Mug as your most likely points of interest. You may also wish to speak to the town's leaders at Diggermattock Hall or to the religious elders at The Ruby in the Rough or the Speaking Stones about work and/or a way out of the Underdark.

[[I will be updating the Campaign Log with this information and more soon.

Feeling more comfortable now that he's no longer in the sights of a half dozen crossbows, Dargyr looks around at what they can see of Blingdenstone and says, "Small people make big place. Very big."

Stopping the next gnome he sees, he snarls, "Tell me where map to surface world is. Now!"

"Ignore his manners, what he means to say is: where would we likely find such a map in your wonderful city?" (Undercommon) Voraxus tries to cover for the gnoll once again, stepping up beside him. "I'm afraid our excursion into the darkness has taken its toll on all of us." (Undercommon) In a lower tone and in common, he whispers to Dargyr "I don't think forcssseful tactics are going to work in the middle of their own city."
