"Well, we were nearly attacked by them on the way to another town near here," Owen says, eyes wide. "We barely made it past them by promising to kill any of their enemies or try to convert them to their side. Obviously we were lying. We went to warn the mayor of the nearest town, and he gave us this letter to give to you. But on our way here, we encountered one guard tower with all the guards missing, and bloodstains everywhere! Then we came to another tower, where all the guards were alive, but just after we warned them about the hobgoblins, we were attacked by the hobgoblins! We managed to drive them back and captured one to interrogate, and he said that they'd been attacking guard towers so that there would be no way for the nearby towns to get a warning when they attack. We came here to warn you as quickly as we could."

"I see, come in, you should explain this to the mayor," he looked the band of six, "Are you still intent on going out with goblins on the warpath?"

The one armed man smiled and said, "Good sir, this is why we came up here, we won't shun the fight now!" he gave a quick jerk of his head to the rest of his party and they left on foot.

The guard shook his head, "Foolish adventurers, always think they can do more than they can. Anyhow, come inside and after we lock up the gate I'll take you to the mayor."

After everyone was inside he did just that, gave his drunk companion a stern talking to, explaining he would be right back, and walked the group to the mayor's house.

This town was a lot bigger and more developed. It took about ten minutes to get to the mayor after dropping the horses at the stables. Guards wandered about with lamps on the end of long poles. They nod to you and your escort as you hurry through the town.

You make your way to a richer area of town, within a tall ornate metal bar gate is a mansion. The guard unlocks the gate and walks you up. He gives three hard raps on the knocker, waits a minutes... Then more impatiently slams it again. A few moments later a gnome in a nice, but simple, suit opened the door, "The mayor is sleeping, it can wait till the..."

The guard interrupted him irritably, "Hobgoblins, most likely attacking Marltown within the day! If he doesn't have time for this then He can explain it to the Port when they come asking why we did nothing."

The gnome scowled, but sighed and opened the door wide, "Come in, the sitting room is to the left. Do make yourselves at home," he looked at the adventurers boots, "And remove your shoes please, best not to muddy up the house." He then disappeared as the guard led you into a side room. A fire roared in the fireplace and it was warm and cozy. Bookshelves lined the backwalls and cozy armchairs were arranged in a semi-circle around the fireplace. The guard didn't take a seat, but waited impatiently for the mayor.

After a few minutes the mayor made his way down the stairs. He was a portly man with graying hair and a large nose upon which sat a pair of glasses. He currently wore an unflattering blue and white striped nightgown with a dark blue robe pulled over the top of it, he rubbed some of the sleep from his eyes and took a seat before the fire, "This had better be important... I've had enough of adventurers waking me up for the 'utmost' important matters!"

"I will stay here and help the watchmen." waved An'Drye, not quite confident that a single drunken man could do very well if such an army decided to attack that very night and there was no guarantee that they wouldnt, she extended her crystaline semi-transparent wings, they couldnt fly, at least not yet, but certainly helped her move a whole lot faster. Or at least that is what she thought, wheter simply by training by the grace of her mother in her own blood, her wings had much more of an impact than they used to be, it took a bit of practice but eventually she managed to fly over to the top of one of the watchtowers. She stood there all night looking at any signs of movement.

Owen takes off his boots at the request of the gnome before taking a spot in a cozy chair.

"Well, I apologize if we disturbed your sleep," Owen says. "But a rather large group of hobgoblins is making its way towards this town to attack, and so we thought we should warn you."

The mayor rolled his eyes, taking the letter and scanning it as he said, "'Large group of hobgoblins,' boy, goblin nor orc have breached the wall in the last fifty years. The monsters simply can't get past our..." he stopped, squinting at the letter, "Boy, I think you've misunderstood... Alyetown isn't at risk right now, its Marletown. Damn... But are you sure it isn't a false alarm?"

The guard spoke up, "According to these adventurers the two towers were attacked."

Boyle picked up there, "Ya, we had to repel the attack off of one o' them too. Kuro's garrison needs some help, but Gerald's tower was completely wiped out. Caught a hobbie who said they were attacking, then we hurried here to confirm with you."

The mayor suddenly looked more tired than indignant, "I'm sorry, thank you for bringing this information," he looked up to the guard, "Guard, get word to the captain. He'll start making arrangements immediately. Oh, and just in case, we need to triple the guard presence on the wall." The soldier gave a nod and exited.

As the soldier left the gnome showed back up with a tray of biscuits and tea. With a wave of his free hand a small plate of biscuits and a cup of tea floated to each of the guests and the mayor. The mayor took a small sip of his tea, "Thank you, its not too often to see help like that. I'll have a reward prepared for you tomorrow, for the time being I can arrange an inn for you to stay at, but be prepared to give a full report to Captain in the morning."

    "Nah,"
Boyle cut in, "I'll go fill him in if'n ye can give me directions to where he be right now, I'm pretty familiar with the town and I can meet back with these'ns at the inn." The mayor paused but eventually gave him the directions and told him the name of the inn he was going to put them in was the Grey Hearth.

Unless anyone objects the second guard escorts the party to the Grey Hearth where they are welcomed and quickly shuffled up to a single room with an apology, "All the other rooms are taken at the moment,"

An'drye doesn't see anything coming from the road, but as the night wears on the drunk guard is replaced by four other guards who watch An'drye quizzically, the watch changes once more before the sun begins to rise. As the last watch changes An'drye notices several ships far off over the water, after a while another of the guard's notices it through his telescope and mutters, "It be odd they be comin' in so early..."

(Alrighty so unless anyone needs to ask the mayor anything about the situation or An'drye wants to do anything else then I'll close this up and we'll start the next chapter.)

An'Drye notes the ships and pays attention but otherwise just waits till she sees the group come back.
