Concept: 1) Xin had always wanted to marry a banker, so she could escape the streets of Sharn and retire to the life of comfort and luxury that all changelings deeply aspire to. So, she took up metalworking, pretended to be fascinated by compound interest rates, learned how to drink enough ale to kill a halfling- and eventually met Adaramn d'Kundarak, who instantly fell head over heels in love with her. Which admittedly is not as far for a dwarf, but you get the idea. 2) Naturally, House Kundarak were suspicious of some sort of scheme, particularly since there was one. Before Adar's family would agree to the marriage, they insisted on a long engagement, and a difficult set of tests. Xin moved to the Mror holds, and lived there for a year, learning history, reciting oaths, taking part in ancient rituals, and being constantly drilled, probed and tested by dwarves who owed their entire fortunes to judgment and suspicion. She outsmarted them all, disguising herself in mind and body, cloaking her greed and ambition with thoughts of humble, honest and devoted love... 3) And something happened. Xin changed- a stupid thing to say about a changeling, but true. She knew she could go anywhere and be anyone, but she realized that she craved stability. She needed someone who was devoted to her, and not to who she was currently acting like. She wanted to spend the rest of her life with Adaramn. She wanted to be a dwarf. And just like that, she was. 4) Xin and Adaramn have been married for a few years now. They built a home together, invested in profitable low-risk consolidated funds, politely ignored the elder Kundarak's complaints about grandchildren, and are currently living happily ever after. They both proudly serve the House: Adaramn continues to work at the bank, while Xin discovered her natural aptitude for small fiddly metal things and rose to a quietly respectable position as a 'security consultant'. 5) Adaramn is currently in Sharn on business, negotiating a complicated and expensive contract. Xin tagged along, but she is taking the opportunity to to revisit some of her old haunts and old friends from her old life. It's been a peculiar experience for her. Goals: 1) Xin is genuinely happy with her life and deeply in love with her husband. All she wants is to spend her life with him, make her newly-acquired ancestors proud, and put enough away so that they can retire comfortably when the time comes. 2) Gosh I sure hope Xin doesn't get separated from her husband when the robot-zombie apocalypse strikes and finds herself forced to use dwarven steel and changeling cunning in a desperate attempt to find her lover that rapidly turns into a struggle for survival. Wouldn't that be inconvenient. 3) Mechanically, Trapsmiths and Combat Trapsmiths are capable of some pretty nasty things. As the game progresses, her traps are going to get more vicious, violent and disturbing- which may or may not be her getting in touch with her ruthless and monstrous side. Secrets: 1) Before Xin started her (highly successful) career as a gold-digger, she was a pickpocket, a small-time con-artist, and… Let's only say that she did a number of other things that changelings do to make money. Adaramn forgives her, of course, but that whole portion of her life is a sore subject for her and she likes to keep it quiet. 2) Though she's hardly a public figure, Xin has come to the quiet and subtle attention of the Cabinet of Faces. What a secret society of changelings with aspirations of world-domination could possibly want with a changeling who works for the House that controls Khorvaire's finances is a complete mystery. She hasn't been approached yet, and would almost certainly be disgusted with the idea of betraying her adopted people. Unless… Persons: 1) Adaramn d'Kundarak, Xin's husband and the center of her universe. He's hard-working, honest and honorable, an incurable romantic, and hopelessly gullible. Great head for numbers and a shrewd eye for a good deal, but the fact that he just can't tell when people are lying to him is going to keep him from ever being too important or successful in his House. He's decided he's fine with that. 2) Jyt, Xin's old partner in crime. While Xin has somewhat abandoned her changeling nature, Jyt embraces it, flipping casually between bodies, identities and genders. Undisciplined and easily distracted, Jyt never had the patience for honest work- which is part of the reason she made good and got out of Sharn and 'he' didn't- but he is very good at what he does, which lately has been mostly blackmail. They don't talk often, these days, and he doesn't entirely understand how Xin keeps herself from going mad from boredom, but they were friends, once, and there was a time when they trusted each other with all of their secrets. 3) Gerthanka d'Kundarak, Xin's mother-in-law. A dour matron who was quite possibly carved out of granite, she has been convinced from the first day she met Xin that the changeling was up to no good. (In her defense, she was.) She is not happy about her son marrying someone who wasn't a proper dwarf girl, and she is not happy about what her grandbabies might turn out to be. Nevertheless, Xin is family, and that means something. But she doesn't have to like it. Quirks: 1) Xin has a changeling's instinct for collecting things, and a dwarf's instinct for putting things away for a rainy day. She has a rather impressive assortment of irregularly-shaped bits of scrap metal that might eventually come in handy in some ill-defined way. You never know. She likes clockworks, and locks, and springs, and things that bend in interesting ways. 2) Xin has learned the value of tact, reserve, and a stoic public face. She still likes to have a good time, but only when safely around family and friends. The only other time she 'cracks' is when someone insinuates she isn't a proper dwarf. Bad things happen.
