***HISTORY*** It was like something straight out of a love song: two star-crossed lovers from different worlds. He was hard-working and honest and honorable, she was flighty and passionate and full of vitality. He was a respected but unimportant banker for House Kundarak, she was running a scam so she'd never have to work again. Xin had always wanted to marry a banker, so she could escape the streets of Sharn and retire to the life of comfort and luxury that all changelings deeply aspire to. So, she took up stoneworking, pretended to be fascinated by compound interest rates, learned how to drink enough ale to kill a halfling- and eventually met Adar Stoneblood, who instantly fell head over heels in love with her. Which admittedly is not as far for a dwarf, but you get the idea. Naturally, House Kundarak were suspicious of some sort of scheme, particularly since there was one. Before Adar's family would agree to the marriage, they insisted on a long engagement, and a difficult set of tests. Adar briefly considered eloping, giving up his home, wealth and family to be with the one he loved, but fortunately Xin managed to talk him out of it. Xin moved to the Mror holds, and lived there for a year, learning history, reciting oaths, taking part in ancient rituals, and being constantly drilled, probed and tested by dwarves who owed their entire fortunes to judgment and suspicion. She outsmarted them all, disguising herself in mind and body, cloaking her greed and ambition with thoughts of humble, honest and devoted love... And something happened. Xin changed- a stupid thing to say about a changeling, but true. She knew she could go anywhere and be anyone, but she realized that she craved stability. She needed someone who was devoted to her, and not to who she was currently acting like. She wanted to spend the rest of her life with Adar. She wanted to be a dwarf. And just like that, she was. Xin walked into the Mror holds, but Ms. Irondotter walked out, and the happily married Lady Stoneblood moved back in a month later. They built a home together, invested in profitable low-risk consolidated funds, politely ignored the elder Stoneblood's complaints about grandchildren, and lived happily ever after. And if it were a bardic love song, it would have ended there, and not gone on to mention the morning she went to Adar's office in Sharn, and found him slumped over his desk, with a black dagger plunged deep into his spine. To this day, no one knows why. Perhaps it was part of a bank heist gone wrong, perhaps it was a bad loan or an unhappy creditor, perhaps it was just random petty violence. But whoever killed Adar Stoneblood killed his wife as well, though her body kept moving. Xin tossed that persona aside, the role she had spent the happiest years of her life in, the only role that wasn't a role at all- and never took it up again. She has no use for it anymore. She has no use for a normal life anymore. The thing that is left of Xin Irondotter is Dwarven steel and Changeling cunning. She is emotionless and vengeful. She trusts no one and is utterly loyal to her employers. She is unpredictable and unstoppable. So when the King approached House Kundarak about comissioning a Silver Key to a permanent and clandestine position with the Lanterns, she was a natural choice: someone highly skilled, someone unquestionably reliable, and someone they never wanted to see again. ***CONTACT*** Azlond Nurfik, Priest of the Sovereign Host.
