***5 Minute Background*** Facts: 1) Ellen Cho is second generation Kansas-Born-Korean. Her grandparents made it out of the North right as things were getting bad, and they came to America, land of opportunity. She's a huge patriot- and has a rather heavy southern accent and a fondness for cheeseburgers. 2) Ellen told her parents she was studying Law, and became an officer of the Metropolis Police Force, as part of her civic duty. People think this involves sitting around and eating doughnuts while Superman does all the work. 3) Along with the rest of the Metropolis Police, Ellen has a weird relationship with supers. Yes, they've got their hearts in the right place, yes, they deal with threats that cops simply can't handle, but there's no innocent-until-proven-guilty, there's no chain of evidence, there's no jury of your peers, and there's no accountability. They call themselves the Justice League, but what they're doing isn't justice. Not in the eyes of the law. 4) When her powers of telekinesis manifested, Ellen realized she was one of those people the justice system simply couldn't handle. She could do things- untraceable and unprovable acts of theft and violence among them. She resigned, and took her disability paycheck to Between, Kansas, to do some soul searching. 5) Cadmus approached her with a job offer: a chance to use her unwanted powers for the good of her country- but in a governmental position, with legitimate authority, ultimately answering to elected officials. She jumped at the chance. Goals: 1) Ellen wants to protect and serve America, her people and their freedom. No, seriously. 2) Ellen could, with very little prompting, slide into supervillainy, and she knows it. I'd like to watch her brush up against that, but not actually fall. Persons: 1) Mama and Papa Cho, currently retired and living in sunny Smallville. Ellen's relationship with them is strained, and they don't talk as often as they should, but ultimately they respect their daughter's choices, even if they don't understand or approve of them. 2) Thad Green, her old partner in the MPD. They've covered each others' back countless times, and that forms a special kind of bond. 3) Ellen's put away a number of criminals over the years- some petty muggers, some low-level Luthercorp functionaries, and the occasional minor supervillain. None of them have fond memories of her. Secrets: 1) Telekinesis, Kyle. Obviously Cadmus knows, but she's been careful about not letting her neighbors know what she can do, and her closest friends and relatives don't know the full extent of her powers. Being public about it is kind of new for her. 2) Cadmus, guess what, isn't the paragon of justice that Ellen thinks it is. Who knew? Memories: 1) Ellen remembers when Grandma finally thought she was old enough to really hear about the 'old country', and about the fear and chaos that she would never have to know. 2) Ellen remembers a bust that went bad, a thug pulling a gun on Green, an adrenaline-pounding, time-stopping moment. He 'missed'. Somehow. 3) Ellen remembers holding onto the desk in the interrogation room, both hands visible and motionless for the security cameras. She had come in to talk to Louie Gambino, the arms dealer, one last time before they had to let him walk for lack of evidence- and instead, she had driven his skull into the wall hard enough to leave cracks.
