• Play Pen and Paper Games Online

If you've been looking for a place to play traditional pen and paper style role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, or Shadowrun you've come to the right place. The members of the Tangled Web all have one thing in common; we love to play RPGs. We have two different ways to play your favorite systems and settings with friends around the world.

The best way to play online RPGs by far is via a Virtual Gaming Table like OpenRPG or MapTool. These virtual game tables allow you to play Dungeons and Dragons online and remain as true to the face to face style of play as possible when you are separated from your friends by thousands of miles. ...

Welcome to the Tangled Web! You are joining a large community of gamers quite literally as diverse as the world is large. We have members of all ages, playing all kinds of games, and literally living all over the globe. So regardless of who you are, where you live, and what kind of game you like you play--you are in good company. For starters, you're going to want to Register if you haven't already done so. You can read and access many areas of the forum without an account, but to really participate and use many of the great features that we have you need to be a member.

Now that you are an official member... tell us who you are! Just head on over to the Main Gate, create a new thread, and tell us a little about yourself! You can say as much or as little as you like, but it's just generally nice to introduce yourself to the throngs of people here in these cob-webby halls.

You're probably chomping at the bit now wondering where you can jump into a game, so that's where we'll go next: the Recruiting Office. Generally the way things work is that GMs looking for players will create new threads here for their games. People can then read the little blurb and reply to the threads for the games that they are interested in--it's that simple! There is also a thread for "Players looking for GMs" that some GMs will go through on occassion when they need people to fill spots in their games as well, so especially if you don't see any games recruiting that you like, add your name to the list. Also keep in mind that new games are always popping up, so check back every couple days to see what new games have shown up.

None of MalBot's commands were published in any help file. It was my rule that if you don't already know the command, you have no business using it. This prevents new users from jumping into the room, seeing a new toy, and spamming the ever loving heck out of the channel with it as they try out every little thing. Today, I break that rule and produce some actual documentation.

You can find MalBot on #thetangledweb IRC channel by clicking the RPG chat button on up at the top menu. MalBot's DMBot feature allows him to generate a random dungeon according to rules offered in the DND 4e Dungeon Master's Guide. After its completion, I gave it a quick test run with 2 other members of the chat, and we all had a blast. The DMBot can work well for a case where you happen to have a small group and want to try a 1 shot dungeon crawl, or even if you wish to play without a dungeon master.

Well ladies and germs, ol' AdamX20 has been hard at work bringing the latest and greatest upgrades to the original OpenRPG software. After having just tested out the early stages of his newest OpenRPG --> Traipse rebuild, I have to admit, I'm quite impressed.

The new software, which is currently working under the development name OpenCartographer, is the next evolution of the original OpenRPG code base. The first thing I noticed on downloading a pre-Alpha version was that OpenCartographer will boast a much cleaner, trimmer interface. It still features the old familiar Game Tree on the left, but it also has added an additional area for characters called the Character Tree beneath that.

The old top menu has been replaced by a shiny Icon Menu that will include some of the most often used functionality like the new Map Toolbox, Grid Control, Special Effects like Light and Dark areas and more.

Taking a look at the Recruiting Office these past few weeks, I have noticed a disproportionate number of D&D 3.5 games as opposed to Pathfinder, or as it is affectionately called by its players, D&D 3.75. As the reason for this may be as simple as a lack of familiarity with the Pathfinder rules by current D&D 3.5 players, I have compiled this guide to clarify the improvements that Pathfinder offers over the 3.5 ruleset.

If you love D&D 3.5, never fear: what rules and options the Pathfinder rules don't update from 3.5 are still solidly compatible with Pathfinder. This means that if you love Psionics, you'll be pleased to know that the Psionics Handbook is as compatible with Pathfinder as it is with the 3.5 Player's Handbook. But as all the core races have been made both more interesting and more powerful, you might really start to enjoy playing that cleric . . .

Without further ado, the Pathfinder Upgrades:

The alpha version is based on the modern military. Subsequent versions will be created for fantasy and future themed militias.

The wiki actually gives the names of some gods, as well as six or seven towns, and since any core classes are allowed it would stand to reason that magic is available.

I'm interested, but I find irony in the fact you expect full bios before the 'collaborative world building' takes place. How are we to know town names, names of gods, if magic is forbidden or not?
